Rhinitis: Types and Treatments
A practical explanation is that rhinitis is an inflammation of the nasal mucosa, manifested by sneezing, runny nose, itchy, blocked nasal passages, and other complications of the eyes, ears and throat.
This disease is divided into two groups:
- Allergic rhinitis, genetic and exposure to allergens such as pollen, dust mites and animal dander. It can be moderate to severe or mild and has a close relationship to other allergic diseases such as bronchial asthma.
- Non-allergic rhinitis, has several causes. Can be classified as acute rhinitis (viruses and bacteria, common cold), chronic rhinitis (smoking, air pollution and other infections), atrophic rhinitis (swelling of the nasal passages by hardening of the mucous membrane, origin unknown), rhinitis idiopathic (dilated blood vessels in the mucous membrane, origin unknown), rhinitis medicamentosa (use of nasal vasoconstrictors), hormonal rhinitis (caused by pregnancy, menopause, or endocrine disorders such as hypothyroidism) and rhinitis emotional (stress and sexual stimulation)
Treatment involves avoiding the allergen, reduce symptoms and cure by antihistamines or corticosteroid or vaccines.
