What is Ulcerative Colitis?
Ulcerative colitis can be defined as a disease that causes inflammation of the intestine into its various parts (colon and rectum), causing ulcers when his red and inflamed lining.
It is common in people younger than 40 years and the causes may be genetic or infection. However, this condition is not contagious. Also, it is believed that stress can complicate it.
The main symptoms are diarrhea with mucus, pus or traces of blood in the stool, nausea and vomiting from time to time. In severe situations may appear severe abdominal pain, weight loss and fever.
Unfortunately there is still no definitive cure for ulcerative colitis, but good medical treatment can slow its progression by reducing inflammation and treatment of intestinal mucosa. Failure to follow the full treatment may be a rebound, ending in hospitalisation and even surgery.
